About Your Instructor

Helena Poleo is a journalist turned Public Relations professional, who has worked with Fortune 500 companies, elected officials and non profits for over a decade to help them convey their message to the public effectively. Helena has served as spokesperson for several municipal governments, including for the mayor of the largest city in Florida, the City of Miami. She has handled media management and served as spokesperson for national, state and regional and local campaigns, and advised presidential candidates, as well as CEO’s from everything from tech startups to Fortune 500 companies.

Bilingual in English and Spanish, Helena has been featured in CNN, CNN en Español, Univision, Telemundo, MSNBC, CNB News in Canada and NTN24 in Colombia, The Miami Herald, the New York Times and many others.

She has helped clients get over their fear of the media for over 15 years, helping them craft their message and find their voice, and helping them get featured in major national networks and publications.

  4. Getting media coverage. An overview of a few tactics to get media coverage for your organization, including an introduction to writing a press release. 
  5. Preparing for an interview. Tips and tricks on how to prepare yourself, and your message, for a media interview. 
  6. Beyond the Key Messages. Techniques that help you go beyond your key messages. 
  7. What NOT to do. Learning what Not to do during an interview can be just as important as learning what to do.
  8. How to handle difficult questions. Techniques that will help you manage difficult questions beyond the famous “No comment.”
  9. Physical tips for interviews. What should you wear to a television interview? And what do you do with your hands?
  10. Conclusion and Final Thoughts. Congratulations, we have reached the end of this course.

The course is completely self-paced and consists of 10 pre-recorded sessions, followed by suggested activities to practice what you have learned.
